Close encounters

ufo-web11

Ever since I moved to Lake Havasu City a couple of years ago, UFO sightings have become a regular occurrence for me. My friends, co-workers and I often see unexplained things in the skies, but only last week was I lucky enough to have my camera with me during one of these sightings.

I was out taking pictures of the London Bridge and the Christmas lights around the London Bridge Resort at about 1:30 a.m. (I know that’s kind of weird, but what can I say, I’m a night owl). I was walking near the front entrance to the resort when I noticed an orange light moving slowly across the southern sky, over the mountains. I zoomed in as close as I could and snapped a photo. This is when things got weird.

As soon as I took the photo, my camera shut down. Now keep in mind: I had been taking photos for about an hour and the camera was working fine. I even had a fresh set of batteries. I turned the camera back on, rezoomed, and took another photo. Again, the camera shut down. I repeated the process a couple more times before the object moved behind a building and out of sight.

I kept looking for the object, but after a few minutes it was clear that I wouldn’t get another glimpse. So I went about my business of taking Christmas light photos, and the camera, again, was working fine.

After I got home, I downloaded the photos and to my surprise the object looked like anything but the orange dot that I saw with my bear eyes.

I cropped the photos closer and lightened them up a bit, and what emerged was beyond belief. A couple of the photos were too blurry to make out, but in one of them the object was clearly a disc-shaped ring of lights and in another the object had appeared to morph into a multi-colored, wormhole looking streak.

I promise these photos have not been doctored except for being lightened up a bit.

I’m still waiting for the Men in Black to come knocking on my door to confiscate my memory card.

  1. Great story and pictures–another great example so many people here enjoy the night skies and do not street lights. We live in the foothills and frequently see ‘odd’ lights. Enjoy.

  2. I too saw an orange light in the sky last week. It was just around dark, I was riding in a vehicle going south on the highway – there was a very dark cloud directly above the casino across the lake and out of the corner of my eye I saw a long tube-like orange light come down through the cloud. I watched to see if it would reappear, but it didn’t. Freaky….

  3. Driving home from the movies last week, we also saw the light.
We followed it, and at one point, it nearly landed right near the old Wal-mart.
It was a home-made hot air balloon. It was being heated by a circle of flames.
We followed toward the south side down Lake Havasu Blvd. for a while, then it headed up toward the high school.
We decided we could follow it for quite a while, but opted to go home instead.

  4. Stories like this are very interesting to me, maybe we could see more of them

  5. Last summer on two of the nights I was fishing ay Site 6 I saw multipe lights (?) southward. They moved/hovered/manuvered for several minutes until they moved off in unison. UFOs ? I surely don’t know what they were, all I know is I saw “something”.

  6. On July 5, 2007 four of us saw an orange light near cupcake mountain from our swimming pool near the London Bridge Golf Course. At first we thought it was fireworks, but quickly realized it was hovering. It was more like the photo you show of the smaller, thicker light. I reported it to a UFO site shortly after. Not sure what it was and have not seen it again.

  7. Interesting “encounter” you had. I would have loved to have seen it. If you or some of the other commenters see these periodically is there a chance you can try looking at them in IR or night vision? I know it’s remote chance you can put your hands on the equipment but it’d be interesting if something more could be seen. Thanks for the post!

  8. Great photos — I’ve seen similar things here in Havasu. This past summer, I was entertaining guest on my patio (south side of town) and we noticed these lights (strobe type) that would appear and disappear (three of them). We got the binoculars and then appeared a larger object. One of the guest thought we were going to see a night refueling but the three strobe lights got in front of the larger object flying towards the lake (west) and disappeared completely. To this day when we’re together, we joke and call it the “mother ship”.

  9. well ill tell ya ,the people of havasu,we all know that theres somthing out there greater than ourselves,, what that is is still to be realized,or found out,,our government treats us like a bunch of podunks, that we cant handle the truth, well the truth of the matter is ,i have also seen these phenomenons in our skies over lake havasu,,,and i have been contacted by such said phenomenons, im not waiting for the men in black, im waiting for the men in white,,to take me away ,,,,ha ha ho ho he he ,to the funny farm, where i can mingle with other extraterrestial beings,,because were all aliens,,,,,,,,,arent we?

  10. Just wanted to let you know that I too see many strange objects in the Havasu sky. I have lived and traveled in many places, but I have never seen so many objects like I do here in Havasu. Great job on catching this strange image!

  11. ‘watcher of the skies’ may think we’re all ready for the men in white, but what we saw was just as clear as the moon is tonight (1-9-09). Please don’t belittle us. Thanks.

  12. Last night my son came screaming in my bedroom about 12:30am….stating he had just saw a UFO outside his bedroom window. When i had gotten out of bed we went out front and to my disbeilief saw numerous aircrafts in the sky. All we could see were Blinking red lights flying above us, there had to be at LEAST 12 flying objects. We stood out there for almost an hour taking pictures till they all seemed to dissapear. My son was on the phone with several of his friends during this time and his friends actually saw one go down behind the lake. we called the police department but no one had called in these sitings . so i just wanted you to know that we saw something. dont know what. but i dont think Lake Havasu wouldnt of had a dozen planes flying over us last night so close together in air space ………so go figure!

    • Do you still have those pictures? You should post them somewhere and leave a link. I think many of us would like to see them and maybe someone will have some valuable input!

  13. I just downloaded my pics from last night and we did get 1 good pic, It looks just like your pic., like a half oranfe circle. hmmm…..

  14. To kelly: is there a way you can download that picture to this site? Thanks for info.

  15. Kelly: I would love to post your photo on ‘The Wasteland’. Can you email it to me? My email is: lphillips@havasunews.com. Thanks!

  16. I grew up in Havasu and had a few experiences of my own. I reported the sightings to the National UFO Reporting Center. So, I will just let you read what I wrote to them:

I have been researching and looking for an answer to explain what I had seen. The most plausible explanation would be homemade Chinese sky lanterns. Last year, I stumbled across a website that shows you how to make them and also has video of what they look like at night.

Here is a video of a homeade sky lantern – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTWC5pm29C0

It was a bit disappointing, but I became convinced that my sightings were of homemade sky lanterms.

However, I was in Havasu this past Thanksgiving and my husband and in-laws saw something really strange in the sky. There were two amber-colored lights in the sky that were vertical to each other. When I first saw them, I thought they were bright stars. However, a little later, I walked outside and looked at them again, and they were doing the same “pulsing” thing. I grabbed my camera and tried to take pics/video, but, just like the owner of this blog experiences, my camera kept shutting off, or my viewfinder would not work.

These lights could not have been sky lanters because they kept the same distance in between themselves the whole time and were stationary.

So, now I don’t know what the heck to think.

  17. January 19, 2009. Wow tonight we also saw an orange light in the sky. Our night started out around 1:00 AM sitting on top of the balcony looking at stars. We were discussing planes vs. satellites when we looked at the other side of the sky away from the lake and saw a bright orange orb floating across the sky from the old Wal-Mart towards Parker. After realizing that it was neither of the two it started dropping little bombs of light that closely resemble the stars around us. It dropped about 6 “stars” and the orange glow faded to a speck floating across the sky. It dropped about 2-3 more “stars” then lit up orange again. After it turned orange, it dropped more stars then disappeared for good. We were unable to see it for the rest of the night. Shortly after there was a helicopter flying along the edge of the lake, coming from the same direction I may add, traveling very fast and disappeared below some houses in the distance. Normally any helicopter is coming from or to the hospital. Alisha called her mom who lives directly behind the hospital and she said she didnt hear any helicopter. Were still wondering where the hell it went cuz we still havent seen it leave from where it headed. Then an alarm sounded from a building not to from where were I live. Coincidence?? I dont think so, maybe the alarm, but the two aircraft definitely not…never have we ever had such a phenomenal experience before.

  18. why do we keep seeing these objects in our havasu skies?? i believe that there is an abundance of extraterrestrial orbs, saucers, or whatever they are, and this is a longituide, lattituide gateway for these time travelers, beings from somewhere other than this astralplane,i believe that Einstine,Gallelaeo,Michael Angelo they would all be having a scientific hey day,, dont you think???? Well i believe that there is other beings out there and when they do come home i want to welcome them with open arms, hopefully you all’, will follow my lead……

  19. Hi, I used to live in havasu years ago. I was house sitting and just got home from work. I went out side to enjoy the night sky, about 3 in the morning. It was when there was a historical meteor shower taking place. I was watching the sky when a bunch of meteor’s came through. I noticed that one of them stopped and stayed stationary for a moment It then moved slowly to the south. Very slowly. It was an orange color. I watched for several minutes. As the object disappeared. Great cover, using meteor showers.

  20. Hi my name is Michael and I lived lake havasu for a couple of years. I was out one night around three am sitting in the back of a boat at a friends house. I had just gotten off of work and wanted to relax. I was looking up at the stars. It was when a group of shoting stars came through about ever 75 years. As I was watching, a group of stars came through and I notice that one of them decided to stay. It stopped, sat for a minute and then very slowly moved toward yuma. Very slowy. It took about 15 to 20 minutes for it to disappear.

  21. just let you know the last entry I made. The color of the object was orange
